Browse, submit, track — in that order
Three steps, no spreadsheet required. Below: what each one actually involves and where it happens on the site.
Start on the publications directory — every outlet is vetted for authenticity. Filter by genre (fiction, essay, hybrid), pay tier (paid, token, unpaid), format (online, print, or both), and response time (under a month, one to three months, longer). Each card shows the market's own word-count range and payment terms so you can match a piece before you send it.

When you've found a market, head to /submit and fill in four fields: the market, your piece's title, the body itself, and a contact email for the editor to reply to. Your writer profile attaches automatically, so editors see your bio and previous bylines without you retyping anything.
Multiple markets, one sitting. Send the same piece to several outlets that allow simultaneous submissions; if one says yes, withdraw it from the others in a click.
Once a piece is out, it lands on your submissions tracker with a live “Days out” counter that ticks up the longer the editor takes to respond. The same view is reachable from the /dashboard, alongside your genre breakdown and personal response-time distribution.
When the editor replies, the status flips — and you can withdraw any piece you sent, until the moment they say yes or no.
What “submission” means, and what happens next
Every piece you send lives in one of four states. You move through them as the editor responds — and you can pull your piece back at any point before they decide.
- Under review
- The editor has your piece and is reading it. This is the only state where a response is genuinely pending; the rest are decided or withdrawn.
- Accepted
- The publication wants to publish your piece. From this moment on, the status is locked — you can't withdraw.
- Rejected
- The publication has decided not to move forward. Status locked here too — but the piece stays in your history so you can see who you've approached.
- Withdrawn
- You pulled the piece back yourself — usually because another outlet accepted it first. Only available while the piece is under review.
The rule of thumb: once a publication marks your piece accepted or rejected, the status is locked. You can only withdraw while your piece is still under review. If you sent the same piece to several outlets and one says yes, withdraw it from the rest before they reply.
